Photography is powerful artistic medium which can be used in a variety of ways. Photography has been used in capturing historic events, landscapes, portraits, architecture, fashion and advertising to name a few. Dexter. J.A. Penn is a young, self taught photographer from the British Virgin Islands. His natural eye for beauty along with his love for photography allows him to capture spectacular images. Gorgeous, breath taking, magnificent; all are some of the words used to describe Dexter Penn’s photographs. The British Virgin Islands is a British overseas territory in the Caribbean located 60 miles east of Puerto Rico. Over 60 islands, islets and cays make up the British Virgin Islands which is part of the Virgin Islands archipelago which includes the neighboring United States Virgin Islands.
The population of the British Virgin Islands is about 23,000 with about 18 of the islands being inhabited. The main islands are Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke. The capital of the British Virgin Islands is Road Town and is situated on the largest and most populous island, Tortola which as a landmass of 24 square miles. The striking beauty of the islands along with the graciousness of its people has distinguished the British Virgin Islands over the years as a travel destination. As a native British Virgin Islander, I have always felt the need to capture the unique character of the islands.
Mr. Penn is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. He continues to develop his talent by experimenting with different techniques and styles. |
